Everyone volunteers their time in F&S Luxembourg
Friskis&Svettis is a non-profit organisation which base all its activities on people volunteering their time. The most visible volunteers are the instructors and the hosts, but nine people also 'work' in Friskis&Svettis Luxembourg's Board.
In a series of interviews some of F&S' volunteers are presented. Here you can read more about them.
Instructors
Friskis&Svettis Luxembourg has twelve instructors. In total there are almost 7 000 Friskis&Svettis instructors in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Aberdeen, Brussels, Copenhagen, London, Luxembourg and Paris. All these instructors have been trained centrally by Friskis&Svettis in Sweden. In fact F&S has trained its own instructors since it began in 1978. Instructors are recruited by the local Friskis&Svettis organisations and have to pass a selection test. Then they follow a training which is divided into two steps.
Step 1 is a four day theoretical course which focuses on physiology and it is the same for everyone, regardless of the specialisation the instructor will have. Step 2 is a five day course, which concentrates entirely on the form of training that the participant will give instruction in. Step 1 takes place in Sweden and Step 2 either in Sweden or Brussels. Those who complete these two courses and pass the theoretical and the practical test are awarded a diploma and become F&S instructors.
Each session prepared individually
The individual instructors develop their own programmes, but all programmes build on movements that have
been carefully developed in cooperation with experts in the fields of medicine and physiology centrally at Friskis&Svettis in Sweden. Instructors also choose their own music. The result is that each session is unique and this personal stamp is an important part of the Friskis&Svettis training concept. It takes around 40 hours to put together the music and movements for one session.
A part from the two training courses all instructors are monitored and evaluated, by specially trained monitors on a regular basis. Instructors are also invited to follow-up training and inspiration courses.

| Hosts
Hosts play a very important role in Friskis&Svettis. At each session the hosts welcome members, check membership cards, help the instructors, answer questions about Friskis&Svettis etc. Simply put hosts are the face, as well as the eyes and ears of F&S Luxembourg.
Friskis&Svettis Luxembourg is always looking for people who are willing to give their time and being a host is a great door into the organisation. As a host you will, apart from helping members and the instructors, together with the other hosts, make a schedule and decide which sessions you are responsible for. You will also get training about Friskis&Svettis and how to help out if an accident occurs during a session. In return you get to exercise for free.
